ImageCyberHome Entertainment and Mustek Systems, have lowered retail prices by 20-30% for their entry-level DVD recorder models in the Taiwan market, according to DigiTimes. The 2006 Football World Cup was expected to boost demand for DVD recorders, but actual sales have been below expectations and CyberHome and Mustek took the initiative to cut prices in an attempt to clean inventories

CyberHome cut the price of its entry-level DVD recorders to NT$3,588 (US$111) while Mustek reduced its offering to below NT$3,000 (US$93), the sources pointed out. In response to the price-cutting, other leading local brands, including Liteon (made by Lite-On IT), BenQ and Sampo as well as Philips have pushed down prices for entry-level DVD recorders to NT$5,000-7,000 (US$154-216), while LG, Pioneer and other international brands have followed suit by offering 3-10% discounts, the sources noted.

The 2006 Football World Cup was expected to boost local and global demand for DVD recorders, but actual sales have been below expectations and CyberHome and Mustek took the initiative to cut prices in an attempt to clean inventories, the sources pointed out.
