Traxdata is one of the world's leading brands in the data storage industry. We had a chance to test Traxdata 4X DVD-R DL media, before they are offically released around Europe. Let's see how good are they.
The Test Method
In this test we burned a couple of discs using the Pioneer DVR-110, LiteOn SOHW-1693S and BenQ DW1640 with the latest firmware. This is just a preview for this disc (only three recorders used). Your results may vary depending on your recorder. We will add more results later. For error rate analysis we used nero CD/DVD Speed software with the BenQ DW1640 and LiteOn SOHW-1693S drives. This test method is not scientifically valid or 100% accurate, but usually gives a good idea of the quality.
The Product
Our Traxdata 4X DVD-R DL discs were press samples so there were no official packing solution available. The disc itself has a very cool looking blue top coating. I think only the green color would be a better choice :-) The discs carry a RITEKP01 Manufacturer ID. Traxdata has a "A Grade" Ritek dye.
Performance using BenQ DW1640
Our BenQ DW1640 (fw BSLB) refused to burn the media, and reported Write Error. We just have to wait for firmware update.

Performance using LiteON SOHW-1693S (Disc 1 @ 4X)
Well LiteOn did burn the disc with 4X speed, but there seems to be something wrong with our writer. Just look at the picture below. The writing surface is quite wierd, would you say? And obviously it can not be scanned. We burned a second test disc with same effect. So we need to get a new LiteOn writer to confirm if the problem exist in the disc or in the writer.

Performance using Pioneer DVR-110D (Disc 1 @ 2X speed)
Well something positive results for a while. Pioneer did burn the disc succesfully, though only with 2X speed. Results are decent.

We scanned the same disc also with LiteON SOHW-1693S.

Performance using Pioneer DVR-110D (Disc 2 @ 2X speed)
Because other writers in my setup did not manage to write on these discs we burn more with Pioneer DVR-110D. Here is results from test disc 2. Still decent, but not great results. Maybe we just need to wait for firmware updates to get better writing strategy for these discs.

We scanned the same disc also with LiteON SOHW-1693S.

Conclusions
Well there isn't really much to say about this disc because it's not yet even published, so there is lack of support for it. We just need to wait for firmware updates. Pioneer did burn the disc with 2X speed, but results were only decent. All discs burned with Pioneer DVR-110D played without any problems in our Sony DVP-NS32S DVD player (we will test more players in the future).
This is our initial test result. We welcome you to use our comment feature in order to give your feedback about this media. We will still continue using and testing this media and update this review if needed.
