Taiyo Yuden is maybe the hottest DVD-R/DVD+R brand at the moment. "High quality media" is the phrase you may have heard before related to the TY brand. Well like the results of our first ever poll study say it: Taiyo Yuden is your favorite media. So let's see how good their 8X DVD-R is.

The test method

In this test we burned a number of discs using the Pioneer DVR-109 and LiteON SOHW-1693S with the latest firmware. This is just a preview for this disc (only two recorders used). Your results may vary depending on your recorder. We will add more results later. For error rate analysis we used Kprobe software and the LiteON drive. This test method is not scientifically valid or 100% accurate, but usually gives a good idea of the quality. The discs were also tested in various playback devices, including DVD-ROMs, a Playstation 2 and DVD players.

The product

Our Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD-R samples has Silver Thermal Printable top coating (poor scratch resistance). Manufacturer ID is obviously TYG02.

Performance using Pioneer DVR-109 (8X)

Very good results. The graph is quite linear and PI average is very low (0.52). Pioneer perform very well at certified recording speed.

Performance using LiteON SOHW-1693S (8X)

Again, very good results. The graph is not linear, but the PI Max remains still very low (14).

Conclusions

Well maybe our visitors/members are right. It performs very well with the Pioneer DVR-109 and LiteON SOHW-1693S drives. This really is a high quality product. Only negative thing is the coating which has poor scratch resistance. But anyway, we can definitely recommend this product!
