RiDisc is a brand of the E-net Distribution, as you may know. Their website is little bit outdated and has no info about this media (07.08.2005). The disc is made by CMC Magnetics Corporation. We had a chance to test the RiDisc 16X DVD+R.

The test method

In this test we burned a number of discs using the Pioneer DVR-109 DVD recorder with the latest firmware revision available (1.57). This is just a preview (tested only with Pioneer DVR-109). We will add more results with other DVD writers later. For error rate analysis we used Kprobe software and the LiteON drive. This test method is not scientifically valid or 100% accurate, but usually gives a good idea of the quality. The discs were also tested in various playback devices, including DVD-ROMs and DVD players.

The Product

ImageOur Ridisc 16X DVD+Rs were in a 25 pcs spindle. The disc itself has same purple print as in RiDisc 8X DVD-R. The disc is made by CMC Magnetics Corporation (CMC MAGM01).

Pioneer DVR-109 (4X speed)

ImageUsing the Pioneer DVR-109, the discs seem to perform decently at 4X recording speed. The PI Max is 24 and averaging at 2.16. The PIF Max results are very good (4).

Pioneer DVR-109 (6X speed)

ImageAt the recording speed of 6x the error rate is decent, but there is one little spike in the beginning (nothing dramatic though).

Pioneer DVR-109 (8X speed)

ImagePioneer DVR-109 just did not like this media at higher recording speed. The PI Max has rised to 87 and PIF Max to 15. The disc still plays without problems in DVD-players.

Pioneer DVR-109 (12X speed)

Image12X is definitely too fast recording speed for this disc. The PI Max is 180 and PIF Max 16. Those are not even decent results. The 16X speed is not supported with Pioneer DVR-109. Maybe it's just a good thing, if considering these results.

Conclusions

This is definitely a good disc with 4X-6X writing speed and gives you your moneys worth (with Pioneer DVR-109). Well it's a cheap disc. We would not recommend this disc at higher writing speeds though.

This is our initial test result. We welcome you to use our comment feature in order to give your feedback about this media. We will still continue using and testing this media and update this review if needed.
