ImageDataWrite is one of the better known brands of the E-net Distribution. It is considered one of their higher profile brands, and has earned itself a rather good reputation. Thanks to E-net, we had a chance to test their Datawrite Blue 8x DVD-R

The Test Method

In this test we burned a number of discs using the DVD recorders LiteON SOHW-1653S, Plextor PX-716UF and Pioneer DVR-119 with the latest firmware revisions available. For error rate analysis we used Nero CD-DVD Speed software and the LiteON drive. This test method is not scientifically valid or 100% accurate, but usually gives a good idea of the quality. The discs were also tested in various playback devices.

ImageThe Company Hype

At the Datawrite website we find the following statement:

Datawrite DVD-R 8x Optima Blue:

This is a new product recently launched by Datawrite which has set the standard for optical media in terms of guaranteed quality and reliability. Manufactured by Ritek and using their resilient G05 dye, the Optima Blue is a favourite in the race for the best dvd-r 8x on the market!!

The Product

Datawrite Blue comes with the regular yellow and blue spindle wrapping. The discs have a pale blue top coating color. The discs are made by Ritek.

Nero CD-DVD Speed: Disc Info
 Basic Information
  Disc type: DVD-R
  Book Type DVD-R
  Manufacturer: Ritek
  MID RITEKG05
  Write speeds: 4 X - 6 X - 8 X
  Blank Capacity 4.38 GB
  4488 MB
  4706076672 bytes

Performance using Plextor PX-716UF

The Plextor records these discs at the rated speed of 8x. The maximum and average error rates are nice and rather low, the curve is linear with no spikes. With some discs Plextor reduces the speed at the very end, but the quality remains good. A nice result.

Image

Performance using Pioneer DVR-110

The Pioneer also runs at the expected speed of 8x. The error rates are very good, and graphs totally linear. So in this case Pioneer beats the Plextor result with a margin and this is a very good results.

Image

Performance using LiteON SOHW-1653S

The trend continues with LiteON - error rates are very good, and absolutely linear graphs. Another very good result for this Datawrite media

Conclusions

Ritek is one of the largest media manufacturers and their RITEKG05 is very well supported by DVD recorders. Our test batch was a 50pcs spindle, and based on these results the Datawrite Blue DVD-R 8x is an A-grade Ritek discs and there was no variation of quality. The results are as good as we would expect from this Ritek media, comparable to Traxdata and other Ritek brands. There was very little difference from drive to drive, so it is very easy to recommend this media for anyone.
