Datasafe is a part of the brand protfolio of E-net Distribution. Datasafe is one of the higher profile and volume brands under the wings of E-net. Thanks to E-net, we had the chance to test their DVD+R 8x media, which is made by CMC Magnetics
The Test Method
In this test we burned a number of discs using the Pioneer DVR-110D (v1.17), Plextor PX-716UF(1.08) and LiteON SOHW-1653S(CS0P). Your results may vary depending on your recorder and firmware version. For error rate analysis we used Nero CD-DVD Speed software and the LiteON drive. This test method is not scientifically valid or 100% accurate, but usually gives a good idea of the quality. The discs were also tested in various playback devices.

Performance using Pioneer 110D
The Pioneer was only able to record this disc with the maximum speed of 6x. The recording quality however seems very good, with a low and linear PIE curve and a minimal amount of PIF. A very good result.
Performance using Plextor 716UF
The PIE curve with Plextor is quite low, but not at all linear as it lowers towards the end. At the very end Plextor reduced the recording speed from 8x to 6x. The PIF rate is extremely low. A good result, but the shape of the PIE curve raised made us suspicious of possible quality variations.
Performance using Liteon SOHW-1653
Also this scan shows raised PIE levels at the beginning of the disc and rising again at the end, peaking above 200. PIF rates remain fairly low, but start increasing at the end of the disc.
Varying quality
A small amount of discs (we were only able to detect a couple of these) showed some quality variation. The scan below shows a spike in the PIF level, and also the PIE curve is going up and down unlike in the earlier Pioneer scan. This kind of PIF levels may cause some skipping, at least when played in media sensitive devices.
Conclusions
The best results with these discs were very good, but there seems to be some variation of quality. The worst cases may start causing issues in some sensitive devices, but likely will work ok in most PCs or DVD players. Pioneer and Plextor results were better than with the Liteon, but that is not really a surprise as the Liteon 1653 is not one of the best recorders out there.
Clearly the Datasafe DVD+R 8x falls behind the premium quality media on the market, but might be a decent buy if the price is a bargain. Not recommended for critical tasks though.
