Advanced Guide to Converting Videos for Nokia E90
STEP 2: Audio Encoding
STEP 3: Encoding the Video
STEP 4: Multiplexing the Audio and the Video

STEP 2: Audio Encoding

E90 supports many different audio formats, but for video, AAC is definitely the smartest choice. We’re going to use Nero’s famous AAC encoder with LC-AAC setting. LC-AAC gives a great compromise between quality, file size and compatibility.

HE-AAC v1/v2 could also be used to yield smaller file size, but it requires much more CPU time, thus draining your E90’s battery.

We’re going to use BeLight with Nero AAC encoder, so grab the software first:

Place the ‘neroAacEnc.exe’ to same directory with BeLight and start BeLight. BeLight is very easy-to-use program so there aren't too many things to be tweaked.

The mandatory options (marked with green background):

  1. Set SSRC setting to 44100Hz to avoid possible playback problems
  2. Since E90 doesn’t support 5.1 surround, we shall use stereo
  3. Use Quality mode with 0,31 to get LC-AAC stream

There are also few optional features (marked with red background) you might want to use. You can dynamically compress your stream so that there won’t be very big differences in volume levels (so that e.g. the explosions in movie won’t sound too loud). Normalization just makes sure that your entire audio track is loud enough preserving dynamics.

Dynamic compression is very useful if you’re planning to play your videos in noisy environment such as a car or a bus.

Now, open your AVI video to BeLight. BeLight will automatically read the audio stream from your AVI file. Now that you have already set the settings properly, just hit Image to start converting. After encoding, you will have a M4A file which is not recognized by the video encoding application. Just change the file extension to MP4 and you're done with the audio.
